Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Carolyn McIntosh's eportfolio HomeThis is a featured page

Welcome to this personal record of my professional life as a midwife and midwifery educator.

This is one of two wiki's which I have commenced to form part of my E-portfolio. In this wiki I record items which I am happy to share with everyone. In my other wiki, which I keep entirely private, I record my reflections on teaching and midwifery. The purpose of this E-portfolio is to support my learning and growth as an educator and as a midwife, while also providing evidence of reflection for my midwifery standards review process. (You can find out more about this at the previous link of here to the NZCOM site). My reflections on practice are based on the reflective process. You can learn more about the reflective process and how to be a reflective practitioner through module 5 of this Preceptor Education programme, which is freely available online from the University of Western Ontario. You need to register to be able to fully access the course, but it is well worth doing and costs nothing to do.

My wiki was commenced in November 2008 and is an evolving a growing project. I welcome your thoughts, ideas, suggestions or constructively critical comments. In the tool bar above, below my photo, you will see a tab titled 'Discussion Forum'. I have commenced two discussion threads there where you can comment if you wish, or you may also choose to start a new thread of your own, this too is welcome.

(Note: I welcome your thoughts and ideas but will delete any offensive material or comments which are posted in the discussion forum anywhere on this site)

I use a variety of web based resources to create my electronic portfolio. I record some material directly into this web site and also link to other web based resources which I use, such as Slideshare and Youtube and my two blogs Carolyn's blog and Fled. I also include documents, which I can upload and store in my google document space. These documents can either be private, which only I can access, or public to the web community. I have added a small video I made a wee while ago describing how I use igoogle. I made this video using Camstudio.

I intend most of this Wiki to be open however there are parts that I want to keep private to myself. I have been pondering how to do this. The only way I have discovered so far is to make another wiki which is private and which is linked here. See this wiki "Private Spaces" for more information on this.

To this end I have created another wiki, using the same format, where I intend to record personal reflections on teaching and midwifery practice. I may use these reflections for my personal learning and for my midwifery standards review which you can find out more about at this NZCOM site.

One of the advantages in maintaining my portfolio online in this format is that it is always available to me. I travel around in my midwifery career nowadays. I provide casual midwifery cover in a couple of rural maternity facilities and may do more of this type of 'Locum' midwifery cover in the future. Having my portfolio online means that I can always access it, wherever I am, and record my practice and reflections.
